Some residents of Awoshie have blocked major roads in the community to protest the rate of accidents allegedly caused by a malfunctioning traffic light.
According to the residents, the traffic light has not been functioning for over three months.
During the protest, they claimed that some of these accidents have led to the death of some members of the community.

The roadblock which occurred around 8:00 am, on Tuesday morning caused major traffic congestion for commuters in and around the vicinity.

Police and the military personnel were deployed to bring calm to the agitated residents who had gathered around the traffic light to protest.

Speaking on JoyNews’ News Desk programme, correspondent Piesie Nana Yaw Sarpong said that the security agencies are ensuring that vehicles move smoothly.

One eyewitness, only known as John, who spoke to the reporter said that in one week, cars have hit three people all of whom died.

According to him, the police commander has promised to get the lights fix within a week.

John added that if the commander fails to fulfill his promise, the residents will go on demonstration again.
