Accra Region Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwaku Boadu Peprah, says they are prepared to ensure maximum security before, during and after the December 7, elections.
According to him, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh, has ordered them to train special personnel purposely for the election.
Speaking to Joy News after what they describe as confidence building march on Monday to assure the public of their commitment to providing adequate measures at ensuring peace ahead of the polls.
The Ghana Police Service on Monday morning marched on the principal streets of Accra to display several of its resources like trained dogs, armoured vehicles, crime scenes et cetera to be deployed to designated areas as part of its duty to ensure nonviolence come December 7.
He announced that a total of 1,968 persons have been trained.
“IGP James Oppong-Boanuh has also given an approval to train another 2000 more men in addition to the number. As far as the election is concerned, I am optimistic we are very prepared,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police also called on other security institutions for assistance during the general elections.
“Our 35,000 to 40,000 workforce is not enough to contain all 33,367 polling stations across the country,” he explained.
DCOP Kwaku Boadu Peprah further advised all police officers in the country to desist from engaging in partisan activities in preparation for the task ahead.
