North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has joined calls in the fight to end police brutalities in Nigeria.
He has asked the Nigerian Government to take steps to end the atrocities adding that the perpetrators of these crimes will definitely answer for the actions.
"Officials there must recognize that the modern international justice architecture leaves them with very little room for escape – they shall answer for their brutalities and complicity no matter how long it takes," he said in a tweet.
He also called on all African leaders to intervene in the matter and speak up against the violent acts against innocent Nigerians.
His comment follows several reports of brutalities from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a Nigerian Police Force unit created to deal with crimes associated with robbery, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and firearms.
The latest attack was launched Tuesday on protestors who had hit the street to register their displeasure on the inhumane treatment meted out to them by the SARS Unit of the Police Force.
Reports indicate that the Nigerian military opened fire on one of the pivotal areas in the ongoing mammoth demonstrations, Lekki Toll Gate, injuring many unarmed civilians in the process.
This development has led Nigerian citizens to take a step further by calling for an intervention from the ECOWAS community.
They have asked President Akufo-Addo in his capacity as the ECOWAS chair to intervene, and call President Buhari to order.
Joining the calls, Mr Ablakwa cautioned the Nigerian government to see to the end of the brutalities in order to prevent the country from attracting sanctions from international bodies.
"African leaders must speak out now and demand an end to the bloodshed, failing which severe sanctions must be imposed by the AU and ECOWAS. This is not the Africa we want.”
Meanwhile, Mr Buhari is yet to publicly address the Nigerian citizens as the development continues to degenerate.
