Flagbearer of All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga is accusing the two major political parties in Ghana of recruiting their party loyalists into the state's security agencies.
According to him, this is a practice he has observed in both the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who recruit “footsoldiers and party vigilante groups” into the security forces of the nation.
“We cannot continue to recruit party footsoldiers and vigilante boys into a security agency that is supposed to be an intelligence agency. How then do we guarantee intelligence when all those who are in there are just vagabonds and hooligans of political parties,” Mr Ayariga quizzed.
He stated during an interview with Joy News on Wednesday, October 28, that under his administration, the least academic qualification one must hold in order to become a police officer is an undergraduate degree.
This, according to him, will ensure that security personnel are of the right substance, possess adequate training and the intelligence needed to carry out their duties.
“If these people are not properly trained, they will put the lives of ordinary Ghanaians in danger, make false accusations and imprison people for nothing; without basis and without an understanding of the law,” he noted.
"Most National Security officers cannot even speak English. So what kind of intelligence officers are we recruiting to handle our National Security? How then do we get to maintain and have a standard of security in this country when recruiting is just 'job for the boys'?".
