The Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Oquaye, and Leadership have described the death of former President Jerry John Rawlings as a great loss to the nation.
In a statement sighted by JoyNews, Prof Aaron Oquaye described Mr. Rawlings as a "great statesman who devotedly spoke against corruption in all forms."
According to him, the contribution of the former leader to "our current democratic dispensation cannot be glossed over."
"His frequent appearance at functions in Parliament were always occasioned with warm exchanges between him and the Speaker, Leadership, and Members from both sides of the House," part of the statement read.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings died around 10 am on November 12, 2020.
Sources say he had been unwell shortly after he buried his late mother, Madam Victoria Agbotui in October 2020.
The 73-year-old statesman is said to have died after he contracted Covid-19 and was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
