Political leaders have thronged the residence of former President Jerry John Rawlings to commiserate with his family following his demise.
President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei and Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Freddie Blay and other leading members of the party have visited the wife of the former statesman, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and the rest of the family to offer their condolences.
Addressing the family, the President expressed his deep sorrow at the demise of the former President, whom he described as very dynamic.
Considering the fact that Mr Rawlings was a notable statesman of the country, he entreated the family to accept government’s proposition to give the late former president a befitting burial.
He added that it is vital that the State plays a key role in sending him off.
Speaking on behalf of the family, daughter of the former President, Zenator Agyeman-Rawlings said the family will work in tandem with the Office of the Chief of Staff to ensure that the programme between the family and government for her father's burial are well coordinated.
The President is expected at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to sign a book of condolences that has been opened in the name of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Mr Rawlings, 73, passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday after a short illness.
The death of the ex-President has sent shockwaves not just in Ghana but across the world.
Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fritz Baffoe and Presidential Candidate of Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor have visited Mr Rawlings’ residence to sympathise with the family.
Leader and Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Mahama is yet to visit the family as he is currently heading a party committee meeting to consider appropriate steps to honour the memory of the ex-President
