Chairman of Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee says the Office of the Special Prosecutor was given the necessary independence to carry out its duties.

Ben Abdallah said Mr Amidu must come out clear on some ambiguous issues he raised in his resignation letter.

"I think that we need to listen to both sides of the story in order to be able to investigate the matter and come to a definite conclusion," Mr Abdallah told Kojo Yankson on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Tuesday.

His comments come on the back of allegations by Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu that President Akufo-Addo was interfering with his work, thus, his resignation.

Martin Amidu resigned on Monday as the Special Prosecutor.

In a four-paged letter, Mr Amidu outlined a number of issues, including allegations of interference with the independence of his office by the President.

Mr Amidu was emphatic that, President Akufo-Addo had asked him to hold on with further actions on the findings of the Agyapa deal.

Prior to his resignation, Mr Amidu had also made allegations in an updated report on findings of the PPA boss that, he had no power of his [seconded] investigators.

Mr Abdallah, however, has refuted these claims.

Reacting to the claims, Ben Abdallah said the Office of the Special Prosecutor was given the necessary independence it deserved, thus Mr Amidu's claims cannot be true.

"No person, no organ of government, no authority has the power to tell the Office of the Special Prosecutor what they should do in terms of its day-to-day activities, relating to its investigations and prosecutions are concerned," he said.

"He's alleging and once he's alleging, he needs to bring out further and better particulars to back his claims in order to let the public understand that, this is the point that he is making," Mr Abdallah added.
