President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has cautioned pressmen to be mindful of their wellbeing while performing their daily duties.
Addressing the media on a review of their performance during the election, Roland Affail Monney urged them to avoid areas and behaviours which may compromise their physical and professional integrity.
This admonishment comes after a number of journalists received threats and attacks after projecting outcomes of the December 7 elections.
He also condemned these attacks meted out to media houses during the period a well.
“On a very serious note, the vertiginous right and explosive tone of the raging attacks on certain Journalists and media houses are unacceptable. The trend calls for an immediate response from our security agencies.
“The Media only presented the outcomes of the Electoral Commission (EC) who is the only body constitutionally mandated to conduct and declare an election,” he stated.
Nonetheles, he assured journalists and media houses of the association's support.
"The GJA seizes the opportunity to once again express its deepest solidarity for all journalists and all media houses in Ghana as we sharpen and maintain obsessive focus on the safety of journalist," Mr Affail Money said.
The GJA President applauded the media's performance but also criticised politically motivated media houses whose content were in sour taste.
He said: “We should bear in mind that the national interest is bigger than the ambition of the political parties and their followers.”
