The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged the leaders and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as well as New Patriotic Party (NPP) to maintain the peace in the country after the final verdict of the Supreme Court on the 2020 election petition.
The NCCE in a statement signed by its Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Asare Akuamoah, emphasized that, acceptance of the verdict will foster national unity and peaceful coexistence in the country.
"The ruling which is another milestone in the annals of Ghana's history, is a further test of our constitutional democracy, with this verdict, Ghana has won and we should work together to build the nation." the release indicated.
The Commission also, pleaded with media houses to avoid interviews that will instigate hatred towards the Judiciary.
"We appeal to practitioners not to lower the bar in discussing the issues after the verdict in order not to cause disaffection towards the judges or undermine the judiciary.
"As a country committed to the rule of Law and constitutionalism, we have a duty to preserve the sanctity of our Court and be moderate in our comment on the issues," the statement said.
The Commission further lauded the Flagbearer of the NDC and his legal team for upholding the Rule of Law in their means to ascertain whether or not Akufo-Addo obtained more than 50 percent of the total valid votes cast in the 2020 presidential elections.
NCCE advised Ghanaians to consider Ghana first in all their engagements since Ghana belongs to every Ghanaian.
"We must always be mindful not to put our personal or party interest above that of the country.
"To preserve our heritage and democracy, we have to put Ghana first all the time," the statement said.
