It has become one of the bad practices by Sports Journalists in Ghana, to be pushing their guests to the extent of disgracing them, while the Ethics of Journalism frowns on it.
Sports Journalist, Maurice Quansah, during the 5th Betway Sports Writer’s Conference at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho cautioned participants against the act of embarrassing their guests either via phone or in the studios.
The Veep of the Sports Writer’s Association of Ghana (SWAG) who took his turn to educate participants of the Conference from across Volta and Oti, last Friday, encouraged the sports journalists to be courteous.
“The ethics of Journalism applies to all of us, even though we are Sports Journalists. We must be Truthful, Accurate and Fair. Always remember that you are part of a larger group. We must empathize with athletes and coaches, especially when they lose. Learn how to be courteous in your interview. Don’t be aggressive and want to disgrace your guests. Watch your language and how you question your guest.”
The editor of Graphic Sports also touched on why some coaches and sports stakeholders refuse to talk to them.
“Some stakeholders will not talk to you because someone in your media house has ever tried tarnishing their image with a story. So, they will vow never to grant interview to you.”
The Conference, fully sponsored by Betway, the leading online sports betting company and organized by SWAG, is geared towards enhancing the productivity of Sports journalists in Ghana.
