General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has defended the party’s decision to sanction some key members of the party.
According to him, the NDC will not hesitate to discipline persons who act contrary to the party’s constitution.
“The party has identified the growing indiscipline within its ranks and we have decided to enforce discipline.”
The NDC in a matter of days has sanctioned two key members, former Central Regional Chairman of the party, Allotey Jacobs and a member of the party’s communication team, Stephen Atubiga.
On March 23, the party's Functional Executive Committee (FEC) suspended a member of the party’s communication team, Stephen Atubiga.
The decision came less than 24 hours after the party fired its Central Regional Chairman, Bernard Allotey Jacobs.
The party in February had also suspended former Deputy Secretary, Samuel Koku Anyidoho.
However, Mr Nketia says should any of them want to rejoin the party, that fellow must reapply.
“As it stands now, our party constitution has no provision for re-admission but we have provision for people joining afresh so if he wants to come back, he will be taken as if he is now applying from outside to join the party,” he said.
He also touched on demands by a group calling on the party’s leadership to account for election 2020 results, stating that “the NDC does not recognise any group like Kedess for accountable whatever.”
“There is no such group in the NDC,” he stressed.
According to him, the group is made up of people who have put themselves together to create mischief.
“So I’m unable to respond to whatever infusion they have given out, none of them is a member of the NDC and we don’t know them.”
