The long wait for contestants of SDA SHS, Agona to step into the spotlight and display their prowess in the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is over.

Proving they have what it takes, SDA SHS, Agona on Monday, secured a slot to make its debut in the national contest anticipated to commence in October this year.

Their victory today against contenders; Islamic SHS, Kumasi, Christ the King SHS, Obuasi and Akrofuom SHTS, follows several years of failed campaigns to advance beyond the regional qualifiers.

Last year, the school came close to tasting victory but unfortunately, had its efforts obliterated by Osei Tutu SHS who with a four-point margin carried the day.

But scoring 43 points this year, SDA SHS has broken its jinx to face others like Presec Legon, Adisadel College, Mfantsipim SHS, St. Thomas Aquinas SHS among others to battle for the trophy and bragging rights.

Some supporters of the school who spoke to JoyNews’ Manuel Koranteng expressed how content and excited they were about the contestants’ performance.

They are of the belief with hard work, commitment, and the grace of God Almighty, all Goliaths’ shall fall on their knees once they come face-to-face with SDA SHS, Agona.

“We decided that this year by hook or crook whatever happens, with God on our side, we are supposed to qualify and we have qualified. Our first time and we are not going to relax. With God on our side, we are going to continue the hard work and we are hoping something good will come out of it.”

“It is the students that make up the school, not the buildings of the school so we the students are going to prove ourselves,” another stated.

For 2020 contestant, Nana Kwaku Osei Marfo, a breakthrough performance should be expected by all as the school continues to receive support from the old students.

“We came to help the team for the past two months because we love the school. I'm going to continue to help them till we get to where we hope to get. Expect a breakthrough performance, a very drastic one because, by the grace of God, we will prove ourselves,” he said.
