Kwaku Tawiah, father of one and a half-year-old boy, who was abducted and murdered in Buokrom, a suburb of Kumasi, has stated that residents of the area are living in fear.
The toddler, Yaw Gabriel, went missing only for his body to be found the next day in an uncompleted toilet structure near their home. His head and belly were riddled with holes created by nailing.
Kwaku Tawiah narrated the incident on Luv FM's Love in the Morning Show, Wednesday, June 2. The Show was relayed on Joy FM's Super Morning Show.
He said that due to many similar occurrences in the area and the region as a whole, residents are scared to leave their children with neighbours or friends.
"People have been gripped with fear. When you think about it, you won’t understand. People are sceptical about leaving their children behind. They won’t leave their child for someone to kidnap," he said.
Meanwhile, there have been a number of unresolved murder cases in Kumasi which have also contributed to the fear and panic being experienced by residents.
In 2019, at Santasi-Apire, at least five women were murdered. Up till now, it is not clear who killed these women and for what purpose.
Still in the Region, in May 2021, a 25-year-old watermelon seller, Sabina Boadu was murdered. Her right breast gone, some fingers were missing from both hands, same as the toes on her right foot, and body by the roadside. But all the items in her purse were intact.
In April, in the Adanasi-Asokwa district, Grace, a 16-year-old in JHS 1, was butchered and was found half-naked. Her blouse and skirt were intact but her panty was missing with some sperms found in her private part, she was butchered, thus had severe machete wounds, her wedding finger was missing.
Also, Police at Offinso in the Ashanti Region have mounted a search for a four-year-old boy, Dauda Abdallah who has been missing for the past five days.
It is reported that the boy was last seen in the company of a 22-year-old vulcanizer, Emmanuel Oduro who is currently in the custody of the police.
