Director-General of the State Interest and Governance Authority, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, says the new executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that would take over from the current administration have a task of putting smiles on their faces grassroots before the 2024 elections.
He says there seems to be some level of disconnect between the party and the grassroots that could threaten the party’s desire to win the 2024 elections.
Speaking on the sidelines of the conference of the NPP in the Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region, the NPP Chairman aspirant noted that opportunities ought to be created for the grassroots to satisfy themselves that they could ‘break the 8’ – winning a third consecutive presidential term.

The Delegate conference allowed the party to account to its members by taking stock of the happenings over the period.
There were opportunities for members to ask questions for the executives to provide answers.
Many of the questions centred around jobs and the break in communication between the party and the grassroots.
Speaking on the sidelines of the conference at Saltpond, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, who is aspiring to be national chairman of the NPP intimated, the party has a lot of work to do after the elections of the party’s national officers.

He indicated the party must quickly engage the government after the election to re-energize and reassure their grassroots.
“We cannot be sluggish and take chances at all. Winning the 2024 elections is a must,” he said.
According to Mr Boateng, the next wave after the elections of the party's officers is for the old executive to join hands with the newly elected ones to oil the party’s machinery.
He emphasised: “Once the elections are over by next year, say in August, we still have a government which belongs to us, which is an NPP government for about two or more years before we enter the election period.
"Meaning that whoever wins the elections must engage the government very quickly and find out what ought to be done to bridge that gap in communication and opportunities for our grassroots.”

Mr Asamoah Boateng added, “When the party’s grassroots is encouraged and supported, the supporters can have the stomach to help the party win the elections.
"So, there’s a two-year window that we need to engage the grassroots. This is where I am coming from with my background as a Tourism Minister, Information Minister and Local Government minister.”
He says the supporters must feel and know that the leadership relates with them very well, and there’s accessible leadership before they could support their party to secure victory in the 2024 elections.
Nonetheless, Mr Asamoah Boateng believes the conferences across the country have eased some of the pressures on the party and would help galvanize the party towards its goal of ‘breaking the 8’.

MP for Mfantseman, Ophelia Mensah-Hayford, charged the party supporters to remain strong and steadfast, assuring them that the party would meet them at the point of their needs.
