The founding president and Excective Dean of Noble International Business School has advised academics to always back their body of work with research to achieve credibility.
Professor Kwaku Atuahene-Gima said one of the major problems he sees in Ghanaian society is that the scientific method is not followed in problem solving.
Comparing his past experiences in Hong Kong to Ghana, he said, “When I was in Hong Kong, they made my career as a researcher take of in a big way.
"This was because the government there has a research fund where people could present proposals which will be externally reviewed and accepted or rejected."
Talking to Rev Erskine on Accra-based Y107.9 FM’s Yleaderboard series on the Myd Morning Radio Show, he said, “The experience I got in Hong Kong and a research I conducted there and how it helped the work we did made me realize the importance of research."
He argued there are a lot of able researchers who are capable of conducting credible research for the country, yet they are not given the opportunity to do so.
“So my question is, why do we not have research backing whatever we want to do to ensure that what we want to do at least has 50 or 70% chances of being successful. Because from the research, you will know the outcome and what has been done to understand the context," he said.
He advised that Ghana takes research more seriously in order to help with the country’s development.
