Yaw Manu Yeboah, Wenchi District Director of Education, has appealed to teachers in the district to go back to the classroom while the leadership of the GNAT negotiated with the government for an appreciable condition of service for them.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the unofficial strike action
embarked on by teachers in solidarity with their NAGRAT colleagues, the
District Director called on the teachers to consider the plight of the
pupils "who are just innocent" about their woes and put an end to the
strike.
Mr. Yeboah urged the leaders of GNAT to ensure that an appreciable improvement was made in the salaries of teachers at the end of the
negotiations to encourage them to serve better.
He commended the local managers of mission schools in the area for convening a meeting to plead with the teachers to abandon the action,
which the teachers had responded to positively.
"Such efforts of the managers have really shown their concern and commitment as stakeholders of education', he said and urged them to
continue to support education in the district.
Mr Yeboah urged school management committees, parent teacher
association executives, religious leaders, traditional authorities and
Assembly Members to visit the schools and interact with the teachers to encourage them in their work.
