Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has stated that the requirement for effective artiste management goes beyond young men who have little expertise in the administration of affairs of musicians.
In an interview on DayBreak Hitz on Wednesday, he asserted that creatives in the country should strive to employ the services of professionals who can promote their music businesses.
He alluded to a recent musical beef between Shatta Wale and Burna Boy and indicated that Burna Boy has won the hearts of many due to how his management team branded him.
He therefore urged Ghanaian musicians to take a cue.
“It took the conscious effort of having a professional marketing team around him to blow him up. Burna Boy, Burna Boy, Burna Boy is all about the marketing and the packaging and the hype. We had the Beyoncé-Shatta collabo but after all the two-three weeks hype here in Ghana, where did it go?”
“Management of artistes should go beyond boys-boys. Look, it’s a professional business. Look at what was happening with Burna; when he lost it and was tweeting nonsense in response to Shatta on Instagram; as he posted, there was a professional team that was deleting them. When our brother was saying the ‘wmt’ and things, who was deleting anything, who was managing him?” he quizzed.
Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and Burna Boy recently engaged in a heated altercation that got many talking.
The duo exchanged series of attacks on social media to the point where they issued threats to each other. They were at each other’s throats for days.
Burna Boy has since apologised for what happened.
