It took more than four hours for firefighters to quench a fire that gutted the popular Agyekum building at Adum destroying three large provision shops and items running into millions of Ghana cedis.
Five fire tenders were deployed to the scene as fire officers fought the raging inferno.

Though no official cause of the fire has been identified, eyewitnesses cite a power outage as the possible cause.

The Agyekum Building located in Adum serves as a hub for wholesale and retail of provisions and general goods.

The fire started around two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, February 4, 2022.

Though no casualties were recorded, the destruction of large numbers of wares and goods was visible.

Individuals at the scene were earlier, preventing fire service personnel from getting access to the building.

Deputy Regional Fire Commander, Rashid Nisawu describes this situation as worrying.

According to him, improper housekeeping also made the fire fighting more challenging.
