Reports indicate that the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital has run out of some essential drugs following a cut in delivery by their suppliers due to debt owed it by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

Medical Director at the Hospital, Amponsah Abebrese said the facility has incurred huge debts because the NHIA has failed to pay off outstanding claims.

The situation which started last year is seriously affecting healthcare delivery at the facility.

He said since July last year, the NHIA has not paid their claims and all efforts to get the payments made has not been successful.

The hospital now operates on internally generated funds and even that is locked up making it difficult for them to procure basic needs for the facility, he added.

Patients have no choice but to search for prescribed medication from other pharmacies.

However, Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA Sylvester Mensah in an interview with Joy News said all outstanding claims from last year should be paid by the end of next month.
