Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members at the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region are agitating over what they describe as an unfair process in the election of polling station executives.

To the chagrin of some contestants, the election of polling station executives was elected at dawn on Monday in some areas of the constituency.

The angry party supporters took to the streets of Ejisu to protest over the election. Some members also invoked curses.

In an interview with Luv FM’s, Abdul Latif Awal, some party members expressed worry over how the election was conducted.

According to worried party members, “this has never happened in the history of the constituency.”

“We picked our forms three days ago; all we heard was that the election was conducted just last night; even the presidential election is not conducted overnight,” one member said.

Another angry member also said: “We were made to understand that Wontumi has paid for the forms, but to our surprise, Wontumi didn’t pay anything.

"I had a call from someone at 2.00 am telling me about an election, so I rushed there, and to my surprise, it was true. The election is not supposed to be conducted at night; Ejisu is a stronghold for the party.”

She further called on President Akufo-Addo “to advise John Kuma to cancel and re-conduct the election.”

The acting Vice-Chairman of the Constituency, Ntim Twumasi, said some of his executives unilaterally undertook the exercise.

He stated that the party's national executive council will be petitioned over the matter.

“Never in the history of Ejisu have we voted at dawn, 3 am. If we did, I wouldn’t be constituency executive because, by that time, I would have been asleep…The number of people here is all working towards the interest of this party so one person cannot entrench him or herself upon the people of Ejisu,” he said.

He stated that the party's agenda is to break the eight without breaking the party, so the necessary steps should be taken.

A party member, Mr Edward Amponsah Budu, who has expressed interest in contesting the Ejisu Parliament primaries, is worried about the situation.

“If the NPP wanted to break the eight, let the grass-root decide because what I can say on authority is that, look at the people here, if every member these 1000 people is going to convince at least five people just not to vote for the NPP, where is our stand in Ejisu here,” he told JoyNews.
