AshantiGold have settled half of the salaries they owed their players, according to the club's administrative manager Daniel Bioh.
After the club's defeat to Techiman Eleven Wonders last weekend, rumours from Obuasi suggested that the club was reaching a boiling point, as players confronted management in demand of their salaries which had not been paid for four months.
This follows news that Kwaku Frimpong, bankroller and Emmanuel Frimpong, CEO had been summoned by SSNIT over the club's failure to pay SNNIT contributions of their players. However Bioh revealed to JoySports that players at the club have now made reception of two months of their salary arrears.
"We have made two months payments as at now and no, players are not threatening a boycott of training. The original schedule of our training session was 3pm and that was when they reported for training," Bioh said in a JoySports interview.
The former Premier League champions were tipped as part of the top 10 finishers in the top flight are currently just three points above the relegation zone and face tough and tricky opposition in their next four games. Certain media outlets have attributed the team's underwhelming season so-far to the player's not receiving their salaries.
Despite their proximity to relegation, Bioh oozes optimism.
"Why don't we focus on the positives too. We are three points above the relegation zone but in the same way we are only a few points from the top four. The point gap is not that wide so every point or defeat can take you to a higher position on the league log. We still have a couple of matches to play, there was a time we won three consecutive games so it's just a matter of returning to the table and seeing how best we can get things together."
AshGold face Karela United in their next league fixture, where a defeat could see them fall into the relegation zone.
