The Asakaa Boys have revealed that they were not paid for their 2020 Afrochella performance.
In a Twitter Space on Tuesday, Jay Bahd one of the performers claimed that the organisers had requested them to perform for free because of Covid-19.
He explained that his team was of the hope that they would be called back to perform in 2021 when the organisers had more funds.
However, Jay Bahd said Afrochella resorted to other artistes including foreign acts at their expense when the 2021 edition came off.
This, Jay Bahd said, were some of the reasons for their absence from some top shows during the festive season last year, because they had decided not to perform for free this time.
He said that they are not ready to perform at any event for free.

Also on the space, Reggie revealed that the Asakaa Boys had chosen to perform without remuneration in 2020 because they had hoped the platform would give them a bigger mileage.
He added that hence they were expecting to hear from the organisers again, noting 2021 was the best time to call them in since the organisers now had funds to pay acts.
However, one of the Afrochella co-founders denied the accusations.
“1000% false but whatever,” Edward Elohim wrote on Twitter.

He also posted a purported WhatsApp chat on Twitter with one of the members of the Asakaa team, Rocky.
In the chat, the Asakaa manager had admitted that Afrochella paid for the boys’ accommodation and transportation.
“Please stop playing with our name,” he captioned his post.
