The St. James Seminary Senior High School has been crowned the Bono Zonal champions in the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

They tried in 2021 but were out-smarted by Nkoranza Senior High Technical School.

For this year, nothing stopped the cream-shirted boys of St. James Seminary SHS from becoming the ABSA Bono zonal champions.

After a heated finals on Thursday, April 28, the Saints managed to beat Techiman SHS with a two-point margin to carry the day.

They won the contest with 30 points, while Techiman SHS, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel SHS and Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS lost with 28, 26 and 25 points, respectively.

In an interview with JoyNews’ Manuel Koranteng, some supporters of the St, James Seminary were hopeful the team will put up excellent performance on the national stage.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. As such, you should surely expect that this momentum will never die out. The two of them here are excellent, phenomenal students, to tell you.

“They’re champions, to be exact. They studied so hard so I knew they were going to get it. They are great, and this is just a warning to all of you that we are going to see the powers,” they stated.

Elsewhere in the Western Region, Shama SHS stunned Archbishop Porter Girls’ SHS to be crowned champions of the Western Zone.

The 'Icons' had earlier denied one-time winner of the NSMQ – Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) – an opportunity on the national stage in the regional qualifiers.

Against all odds, they beat the 2021 title holders – Archbishop Porter Girls – and St. John’s SHS to become the new champions.
