The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), a volunteer-based not for Profit and Non-Governmental association has held its 55th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra.

The AGM witnessed the change of presidential baton from Wilhelmina Aklaku to Gideon Leckson-Leckey, a professional banker. 

This year's meeting was under the theme, “Harnessing Resources to drive Growth and Sustainability of PPAG in a digital Era". 

The meeting brought together both staff and volunteers of the Association to deliberate on pertinent issues affecting the group and also map out strategies for achieving its targets in the coming years. 

In her handing over address, immediate past President, Wilhelmina Aklaku lauded members of the association for their commitment to the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern maternity wing attached to its Cape Coast Family Health Clinic. 

This facility, according to her, would employ all forms of Technology and digitisation of internal processes to address maternal and childbirth issues in the country.

At an estimated cost of GHS 5.6million, the facility is at 65% completion level and  expected to be ready by December this year.

She further indicated the Digital Health Initiative, dubbed “Yenkasa” (let’s talk) contact center would be used to facilitate referrals from the adjoining communities, facilities and all other parts of the country.

Mrs. Aklaku was happy to inform members that the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) has designated PPAG as its Centre of Excellence that serves as a knowledge hub for the distribution of technical resources among member associations in the Africa region of the Federation and other Civil Society.

The immediate past national treasurer, Gideon T.Y Leckson-Leckey was elected national president with Helen Dzide emerging national treasurer. 

Other governing council members are; Aliu Idrissu, national president of the Youth Action Movement (YAM – the youth wing of PPAG), Priscilla Adubea Adjei, national YAM Treasurer and Magdalene Dorto, youth rep to Council. 

The rest are Tia Nuhu, northern zonal chairperson, Rashida Yakubu, northern zone female rep to the council, Grace Affoah, middle zone chairperson and Edmund Osei - Wusu Agyemang- middle Zone male rep.

Presenting the presidential address after assuming office, Mr Leckson-Leckey reiterated the association's desire to embark on many projects including Family Life Education (FLE) for the Youth, Male Clinics and  other sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs
