The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and AshantiGold Soccer Club are expected to comment on Albert Commey's allegations of match-fixing on the final day of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.
The AshGold deputy chief executive officer claimed games between Hearts of Oak and Real Tamale United, Gold Stars and AshGold, Eleven Wonders and Aduana Stars, and the match between King Faisal and Legon Cities were all manipulated fixtures in order to ensure the survival of several relegation-threatened clubs in the league.
“The Ghana Premier League was competitive but wasn’t happy with the final day because there were lots of fixed games. RTU never won any match away. AshGold v Bibiani Gold Stars was fixed. Wonders v Aduana was fixed. King Faisal vs Legon Cities was fixed,” he told Sunyani-based Space FM.
Joy Sports understands the Ghana FA will today invite Commey to assist in investigations into the matter later today, June 28.
The Obuasi-based side will issue a statement disassociating itself from Commey's allegations.
Indeed Ashgold will say Commey has been on sick leave since early April after suffering a mild stroke. As a result, he has not been involved in the club's affairs in any official capacity to be able to make such allegations.
There is huge pressure on authorities to act on these latest allegations of match-fixing in a season where the Premier League has already been hit by similar scandals.
