The Ghanaian champions lost 3-1 on penalties after the tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.
Asante Kotoko lost the return fixture 1-0 on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Porcupine Warriors won the first leg by the same score line away in Benin a week ago.

Asante Kotoko came into the second-half searching for the equalizer but to no avail.
Kadiogo held on to win 1-0 and the two teams headed to a penalty shoot-out to decide who progresses to the second preliminary round.
Yussif Mubarik scored the first penalty of the shootout while Solomon Sarfo-Taylor, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, and Enoch Morrison missed the subsequent ones for Asante Kotoko.
Kadiogo went on to win 3-1 to progress to the second preliminary round.
Seydou Zerbo’s side will now have to turn their attention to the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League after failing to go past the first round in Africa.
