The new chancellor of the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor is urging tertiary institutions to make their research activities known to the public.
He observes that many innovations by the university have gone unnoticed.
“I am aware of the immense contribution that Ghanaian academia has made over the years to local businesses, agriculture and industry, through various research projects. Consultancy assignments and advisory roles, unfortunately, a lot of this is done in personal capacity and as such often goes unnoticed and unreported,” he said.
Speaking at his investiture and swearing-in, he called for a strengthened collaboration between academia and industry.
He believes such a move will lead to the production of the needed machinery to propel economic growth.
“It is my hope that in the near future, local businesses and community of artisans in Kumasi and across the country shall approach KsTU for avant-garde solutions to their problems and regard the university as a true business partner.
“This should especially be the case in the development of appropriate tools and equipment for national development with emphasis on agricultural mechanization,” he said.
Dr. Addo Kufuor again called on the government to “strengthen the links between tertiary education, industry, and agriculture”.
The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who led the swearing-in avowed Dr. Addo Kufuor’s integrity.
He believes he is well placed to deliver on his mandate.
“I know him as a man of integrity so for the Kumasi Technical University to choose him as a Chancellor, I will say, you have virtually won a lottery,” he said.
