Ghana’s Farida Iddriss has been appointment as a member of FINA (World Aquatics) Bureau for the next three years.
Farida was nominated and approved by congress at the FINA Extraordinary congress in Melbourne, Australia on Monday.
She has vast experience of administration in the sport, holding positions like Treasurer of the Ghana Swimming Association, Vice President of CANA Zone Two and Bureau Member for CANA (African Swimming body).
"I was extremely excited when I received an email about my nomination but just like I always say, with God all things are possible. It’s a new challenge, and we will give our all for the growth of Aquatics in Africa and the world!" She told JoySports.
The appointment comes less than a year after she served on the FINA Reform Committee to help reorient FINA towards good governance, marketing, event manipulation, digital communications, and safeguarding the sport.
In addition, developing an Aquatics Integrity Unit (AIU) is key to the reforms, as FINA seeks to align itself with other major International Federations.
The Reform Committee proposal of a new constitution, new name and new structure was also approved at the extraordinary congress on 12th December 2022, marking the end of their mandate.
Farida was a key contributor to Ghana's successful hosting of the 7th CANA Zone 2 championship in 2020 and the 14th CANA African Senior Swimming and Open Water Championships last year.
