The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum is advocating for the revamp of the current education system in Ghana.
Speaking on Newsfile’s Joy Change Speakers Series, he explained that the country’s fortune would witness a significant improvement if the education system is tailored to meet the needs of the 21st century.
Dr Adutwum stated that Ghana has gotten to the 21st century of industrial revolutions.
He noted that it is thus important to have a system where critical thinking is a norm and children are able to challenge the status quo while developing ideas to better the lives of Ghanaians.
“How do we change our skylines? How do we ensure that we have better roads, clean water to drink, and tap into new forms of energy and resources? By changing the way we teach our children and getting them to participate in the teaching and learning process requires that we have to change our education system,” Dr Adutwum said.
He added that a change in the system will also require the retraining of teachers counselling students and teachings them new things so they can be creative individuals.
“We can only innovate ourselves out of poverty when we have critical thinking young men and women; individuals who’ll look at the opportunities surrounding them and look at our age-old problems with a new set of eyes,” he explained.
