Pensioners who own government bonds have declared their intention to hit the streets on Monday, February 6.
The protest is to demand that government exempts them from the Debt Exchange Programme.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Convener of Pensioners Bondholders, Dr Adu Anane Antwi said the pensioners will be converging at the Finance Ministry.
According to him, the police have been notified about the development.
“On Monday, February 6, if we have not had any positive feedback, the old ladies, men and women will go there in their wheelchairs, sit there for about one hour and we are going to continue to do that every working day till our exemption is granted,” he said.
Detailing a series of steps to take for government to comply, he noted that the group intends to engage former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
According to him, the group will also meet with the Chief of Staff, Frema Opare, adding that he was notified that their letter has been received and plans are underway for a meeting.
“Yesterday, we met the Chairman of the Council of State and we are hoping to meet the former President, John Mahama when he gets back to town,” he added.
