Jerry Adjorlolo, one of Ghana’s celebrated event hosts has advised MCs who are paired to run a programme to see the job as a team work and not a competition.
According to him, the work of co-emcees is to complement each other and not to prove who is better.
“When you have the chance to play by another MC, don’t see it as competition. It’s a matter of cooperation, collaboration. And one where you complement each other. Strength over weaknesses,” he told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z.
He further commended Anita Erskine as someone he gels with when they are paired as MCs for events.
“Anita Erskine and I have been doing this for a very long time. She is one person I respect. She is the best co-host ever,” he said.

He also advised MCs to build networks so they get more recommendations from their colleagues.
“Yesterday, Nathaniel Attoh called me for a gig that he can’t do because he was not available. That is how we grow. We build each other up,” he said.
Giving out some nuggets of emceeing to up and coming event hosts, Jerry urged them to first know who they are, their strengths and what they seek to achieve.
He emphasized the need for fledgling MCs to have mentors who would guide them on their journey.
Jerry Adjorlolo, intimating that the work of MCs is lucrative also noted that the payment for work done depends on the weight and value the host brings on board.
“Starting out, my basic understanding of this job is that you start from a certain position where you are prepared to work for free. Then you graduate to a point where you are prepared to be paid something. And then as you graduate further you get paid a fee. And as you grow, you get to be paid your fee. And as you grow further you get to be paid above your fee. And when you have hit the top, you are actually paid because you are you,” he said.
He made these submissions while discussing the art and craft of emceeing on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
Other speakers on the panel were Nathaniel Attoh, Anita Erskine, Merqury Quaye and Kabutey Ocansey.
