Migrant Labour General Workers’ Union International (MLGWUI) has assured returning migrants of an alternative to survive when they return to their home countries.

According to the union, the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) has a cooperation agreement with the Migrant Labour General Workers’ Union International on “economic inclusion for returnee and potential migrants in Ghana and The Gambia” in Africa.

This project helps migrants returnees, potential migrants and members of the communities, to build their livelihoods from their own businesses.

Some of the project's goals include providing returnees and potential migrants with entrepreneurial skills, providing access to credit unions and their financial products and services, and providing credit with funds from the Migration Business Loan Fund for loan disbursements.

Speaking at the end of the five-day workshop, the MLGWUI's Head of Education International Relations, Justice Baako Ntarmah, who is also in charge of co-ordinating and monitoring Returnees Business and Business Coaching Trainings, bemoaned the sudden end.

"We ask for your prayers and support as I have attempted contacting possible and international funding organisations for Migrants’ Organising Drive, Education, Business Skills Training and Coaching Business Training Financial Support and Equipment Grant for Decent and Sustainable Work to enable MLGWUI to continue the second phase of the said migrants education and business project. So that we could expand the said project to cover immigrants, refugees and potential migrants not only in Ghana as the country but also in all African countries.”

Mr Ntamah also applauded Mr. Ernest Aidoo and Madam Rebecca Ntreh, senior trainers for their patience and advice to trainees to apply acquired knowledge during the five-day training workshop.

Also, the trainers assured the MLGWUI that they are ready to accept the invitation of the union to continue business-coaching training with its members.

Present at the closing of the five-day workshop was a three-member administrative team from CUTraC.

Mr. Mohammed Saani Siddique, the Training and Development Officer of CUA urged trainees to do both known and unknown savings in order to expand their businesses for sustainability and better livelihood.

Five returned migrants, Rev. Raphael Darkpo, Libya returnee; Abena, Kuwait Returnee; Khairat Nasiru, Arabia returnee; Rukayah Nuhu, Saudi Arabia Returnee and Abena Mensa, Saudi Arabia returnee respectively shared their experienced labour migration stories with a call on potential migrants to seek pre-decision departure information and psychosocial counselling from the education and legal department, Finnish-French Migrant Resource Centre (FFMRC) of MLGWUI.

Trainees received a Certificate of Participation and support in returning to their homes.
