Five persons have been arrested in connection with a fraudulent police recruitment exercise in the country.
The five are assisting with police investigations into the fraud.
Hundreds of people issued with fake recruitment letters by some fraudsters are stranded at various police training depots in the country.
Some of the victims who turned up at the Police Training Depot in Kumasi with their enlistment letters for training were told no such training is being offered.
Over 200 ‘new recruits’ sat on their luggage in front of the police school at Patase gnashing their teeth, Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor reports.
They claim they received letters directing them to report at the training school yesterday.
But authorities turned them away saying they do not have any such communication of their coming for training.
According to Erastus, the authorities say the letters are fake.
Some of the victims said they had no money to return to their respective places.
They come from Accra, Eastern region and the northern parts of the country.
A police officer who doesn't want to be named, said he nearly fell victim of the fraud.
He said someone claiming to be in position to help his brother secure admission into the police training school, asked him for 5,000 cedis for this purpose.
He nearly paid the money but counsel from a colleague saved him, he narrated.
It is obvious many of the victims would have been made to part with large sums of money.
