The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has referred the violence that marred the vetting of the Odododiodio Constituency NDC parliamentary candidates to a special committee.
The committee also initiated an appeal process in respect of the illegibility of one of the aspirants to the special committee to investigate and make appropriate recommendations.
The Special Committee comprises: Edward Doe Adjaho - Former Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Samuel Sarpong - National Vice Chairman, NDC, Mr. George Loh - Deputy, Director Legal, NDC, Obuobia Darko-Opoku - Deputy Director of Communications, NDC and Peter Lanchene Toobu- MP for Wa West Constituency.
According to the party, “all processes relative to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency have been put on hold pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Committee.”
On Friday, members of one of the NDC aspirant's camp destroyed party property, including chairs and an air-conditioner, and pelted the vetting committee members with stones, citing unfairness on their part.
A journalist from Citi TV/FM, Akosua Otchere, was also attacked by some NDC thugs at the event, who twisted her hand and snatched her phone.
The Odododiodio constituency is a notorious hot spot for acts of vandalism and political violence having recorded several incidents over the years.
