The team leader in charge of employment and skills for Development in Africa at GIZ Ghana, John Duti, is making a strong case for the government to have a clear policy direction to support the informal sector.

According to him, it is relevant for key stakeholders within the economy to consider supporting women Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through capacity building and access to financing.

Speaking to Joy Business at the closing event of the Women Entrepreneurship for Africa project, Mr. Duti opined that women-led businesses have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the economy, hence the need for more support.

"Women do not default when it comes to loans and I think its key for more focus to go that area".

"These women run most businesses in Ghana and need better access to credit facilities”, he said.

Mr. Duti furthered that these women need more advisory services and training on the current trends within the SME world.

"One area we need to focus on is training for these women. This is significant to the growth of businesses. They are all over in the country, he added.
