Despite calls for a reconsideration of the reopening date, first-year senior high school students nationwide are expected to commence reporting to their respective schools today.
In defiance of the pleas from parents and other stakeholders to extend the reporting date, citing various reasons, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has maintained the December 4 date.
In response to these concerns, Parliament has urged the Minister of Education to contemplate rescheduling the reopening date to the first week of January instead of Monday, December 4.
However, despite Parliament's appeal, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has declined the request.
In a statement, the GES emphasised that "It is the expectation of management that schools begin registration and orientation of students from the 4th of December 2023."
The schedule affects both students on single and double-track systems, as mentioned in the 2023/2024 academic calendar released by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
A total of 598,839 candidates underwent the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), resulting in 585,797 individuals being placed in different Senior High Schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVET) throughout the country.
