The Headmaster of Hwidiem Senior High School (HWISEC) in the Ahafo Region has appealed to the government to address the many challenges facing the school.
According to Fredrick Duah, the timely intervention of government will enhance teaching and learning, making the institution more attractive to students.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News during the school's official launch of its 50th Anniversary which will be celebrated in 2024, Mr. Duah stressed that although the institution is a Grade A school, it lacks the necessary infrastructure to promote quality education like other secondary schools.
According to him, the school is in need of vehicles, washrooms, furniture, a water storage facility and more.
“Our school car is spoilt, we don’t have toilet facility, and despite engaging with the government, their promise to improve the situation hasn’t resulted in any changes for over a year now.
"We also face some water crises in our school, we have plenty water but we don’t have overhead tank for water storage, we also lack chairs in our classrooms, the school needs full maintenance, so the government must deem it relevant to respond to our call,” he added.
Speaking at the same event, the 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Asutifi South who is also an Old Student, Yaw Owusu Brempong used the opportunity to motivate the students.
He stressed that government is committed to addressing the challenges listed by the headteacher.
“They are laying the foundation for their own lives so they should take their lives into their own hands. When we were in school, for the 30 to 40 years ago that we schooled here, there were no infrastructure here. There was just one room which had been turned into a classroom as well as administration block and library.
“But now there are infrastructure and other facilities as it is in other schools,” he explained.
