Some electoral areas in the Ashanti Region will not be participating in today’s district-level elections.
The affected areas, including the South Suntreso, Bantama, Atwima Nwabiagya, Atwima Mponua, Dadieso and Santasi electoral areas, are not partaking in the voting exercise owing to some logistical challenges.
Some electorates who visited the polling station to cast their ballot met an empty centre with no electoral officer or logistics available for the conduct of the exercise.
According to some residents in the area, there was a public announcement in the early hours of the day informing them not to visit the centres as voting has been rescheduled.
The electorates are however expected to exercise their franchise the next day after the logistical challenges have been resolved.
In an interview with JoyNews, the electorates said they are not perturbed to vote the next day as it is their civic duty to elect the right leaders for their community.
Meanwhile, in some parts of the region, the exercise has commenced smoothly with electoral officers anticipating huge turnouts.
