Police have secured a court order restraining members of the Concerned Ghanaians Group from embarking on their intended demonstration on March 6, 2015.

The group had given notice it would hit the streets on Independence Day to protest the unending power crisis which has affected many businesses and residential users among others.

The intended demonstration coincided with Ghana's 58th Independence Anniversary celebration.

The police had announced it would not be able to supervise the demonstration on the planned day and advised organisers to reschedule the date of the demonstration.

The police said its personnel would be busy taking part in the Independence Parade and other related activities which would make it difficult, if not impossible for them to commit men for the intended demonstration the same day.

The police offered to provide full support and supervision to the demonstrators if they postponed the demonstration.

However the organisers were adamant, vowing to go ahead with the demonstration as planned.

The Police consequently proceeded to court to secure a restraining order from the court to stop the demonstrators from carrying out their intended demonstration.

A statement released in Accra and signed by ASP Effia Tenge with the Public Affairs Unit said "the court order further restrains [instructs] the group called Concerned Ghanaians, their agency, servants, assigns, workmen or anybody claiming power through them, to refrain from embarking on any form of demonstration on March 6, 2015."

"Unfortunately, all diligent efforts to reach and serve the organisers of the demonstration with the restraining order have proved futile, leaving the police with no option than to reapply for an order for substituted service."

ASP Tenge said her administration has had to post the order on the circuit court notice board, Accra, on the electronic and print media houses and known places of abode of the organisers.

The statement said the police through service on these platforms are deemed to have informed the organisers and must obey accordingly.
