A delegation of the National Executive Committee of the Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners (SPMDP) on Tuesday, February 27, paid a courtesy call on the CEO of Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA), Dr. (Med) Philip Bannor at his office in Accra.

The SPMDP delegation included Dr. (Med) Andre Kwasi-Kumah, the National President, Dr. (Med) Akwasi Adomakoh, the National Vice President and Dr. (Med) Matthew Edusei, the National Secretary.

The visit was to formally inform the CEO of the newly elected executive and also discuss areas of collaboration for the continued, efficient production of good quality healthcare by private health institutions.

The CEO advised private hospitals and clinics to subscribe to the NHIS to increase access to healthcare for all.

He further urged the Society to strengthen its collaborative networks with other stakeholders in the health sector adding that he was very interested in seeing the private sector play an efficient complementary role to the government sector.

The SPMDP also requested that HeFRA take a second look at annual charges that hospitals and clinics have to pay as HeFRA retention fees, as they were a drain on private resources along with other fees that needed to be paid.

The two bodies pledged to continue their collaborative efforts to achieve mutual goals.
