The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging President Akufo-Addo to release the KPMG audit report on the revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) without delay.
In a press conference held on Monday, April 29, the Communications Director of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, emphasised the importance of making the audit report public. He stated that this would allow Ghanaians to ascertain the full truth of the contract.
Among the demands made by Mr Gyamfi was the immediate termination of all contracts between SML and GRA.
"The immediate termination of all the illegal contracts entered into between SML and the GRA and the retrieval of all payments made by government to SML under the illegal agreements which have occasioned a huge financial loss to the State."
"The immediate publication of the full KPMG investigative report on the dealings between SML and the GRA."
He argued that if the government fails to comply with this demand, a future NDC government would not honour the contract.
"The NDC wishes to reiterate the pledge by our flagbearer and leader, John Mahama, that the next NDC government will not recognize the illegal contracts between the government of Ghana and SML, upon assumption of office in the year 2025."
"When elected into office, we shall launch credible and transparent investigations into this stinking SML scandal, to retrieve for the State, all illegal payments made to SML and ensure the prosecution of all persons who are complicit in these illegal transactions," he said.
The NDC's call for transparency comes amidst concerns raised over the contract following revelations made in a documentary by The Fourth Estate.
The documentary raised questions about the revenue assurance contract and prompted the KPMG audit, the results of which are now being demanded to be made public by the opposition party.
