Security analyst Adam Bonaa has urged investigators to widen their scope of investigations into the killings in Wa, highlighting his discussions with regional security officials regarding overlooked aspects such as illegal mining.
The Ghana Police Service has already started investigation into the circumstance surrounding the death of two people in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The two incidents were recorded on Tuesday at the Wa East Education Service office and the Wa Model JHS School.
“We would like to assure the public, especially the residents of Wa, to remain calm as the police work to get those involved arrested to face justice,” the service said in a statement.
Speaking on JoyNews AM show, Mr Bonaa stated that, “Anyone who knows the modus operandi of galamsey, usually not all of them, but we are told, and we hear, and we have read that when people die, they discover more gold“.
Mr. Bonaa highlighted the presence of gold in Upper West and the Savannah regions, noting extensive brick-making activities in the area.
He questioned whether investigators had considered examining the issue of illegal mining (galamsey) in these places.
“Are some galamseyers involved as part of their occultic way or voodoo way of discovering gold? Are they beginning to use human sacrifice? Are they beginning to kill people in order to discover gold?
"We are told in some galamsey areas that when you go underground and the pit collapses on you the next day, it is bumper harvest; they harvest a lot of gold, and so I am actually putting it out there that they should broaden their scope”, he noted.
