Secretary-General and Chief Executive of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Prof. Colin Riordan is encouraging government, universities, industries and civil societies to forge a strategy towards a thriving e-learning system in the country.
“You would co-create a strategy for e-learning through the quadruple helix. The quadruple helix is government, universities, industry and civil society, so all those areas working together to co-create, a strategy for e-learning because they all have a role to play as industry will employ the students.
“For the students to be taking part in the actual e-learning, the universities will need to bring it to fruition, and the government needs to provide the policy and the frameworks and frankly at least some of the money," he explained.
Speaking at the 2nd E-learning International Conference as part of E-Learning Week 2024, Prof. Riordan advocated for the need to “build a system from the ground up”.
“Don't assume that things are working well. You must evaluate your progression, make changes and then move on,” he said.
Deputy Education Minister, Rev. Ntim Fordjour pledged government’s support towards enhancing e-learning in Ghana.
The E-learning International Conference is under the theme: “Fostering excellence in e-learning across diverse disciplines with special consideration on progress, challenges and prospects.”
Director of the KNUST E-learning Centre, Prof. Eric Appau Asante was hopeful that the discussions at the conference will translate into tangible education practices and actionable plans.
KNUST Vice-chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson reminded the E-learning Centre to work together to achieve more.
“We continue to work on enhancing our e-examination strategies with increased online examination roll out. The rapid pace of technological advancement presents both opportunities and also challenges, but together we can achieve more.
“It is our responsibility to foster cross disciplinary collaboration ensuring that every field benefits from the advancement in E-learning. And at the end of the day what must take center stage is that we are not leaving anyone behind,” she said.
