Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Emmanuel Kojo Agyekum, has appealed to chiefs across the country to speak against ethnocentric comments that have the potential of destroying the peace and unity of the country.
According to the minister, chiefs are best placed to admonish and rebuke any politician whose conduct threatens the peace and unity of the nation.
He called on the chiefs to use their authority and to promote social cohesion between all ethnic and tribal groups in the country by condemning such comments usually made by politicians.
"No ethnic group or tribe is better than the other. We are one people", he said.
The deputy minister made the appeal when he paid a courtesy call on the Krachiwura Nana Mpra Besemuna III to solicit his support for the upcoming National Sanitation Day to be held in the Volta Region.
The fifth National Sanitation Day is scheduled for the region on March 7.
Emmanuel Kojo Agyekum asked the Krachiwura to lend his support to the National Sanitation Day.

Nana Mpra Besemuna expressed his readiness to join the campaign for sanitation together with his chiefs and subjects.
As part of preparations for the event, the two Deputy ministers for Local government and Rural Development Emmanuel Kojo Agyekum and Nii Lantey Vanderpuye have been visiting various districts of the Volta Region to garner support the exercise.
They are also inspecting ongoing projects in the various districts.
