The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has paid tribute to his former boss, the late former president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
Mr Mahama, who served as Vice President under Atta Mills, described him as a nation-builder who prioritised unity and the national interest over personal or political gain.Â
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 24, commemorating the 12th anniversary of President Mills' passing, Mr Mahama lauded him for epitomizing truth and honesty.
He also highlighted that President Mills was the first to cut his own salary as a sincere gesture of solidarity with the economic hardships many Ghanaians faced when they took office in 2009, following the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Mahama's heartfelt tribute underscored the late president's commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians and his legacy of integrity and selflessness in leadership.

"My boss, President John Evans Atta Mills, was a selfless leader. He prioritised the needs of the nation over personal and political gain. When he took over from the NPP government, he was the first to cut his own salary as a sincere gesture to show solidarity with the economic hardships faced by many Ghanaians."
"He was passionate about lifting the vulnerable and duly allocated resources to social welfare programmes."
"He was a man who epitomised truth and honesty. From his life in Academia to his time as the IRS Commissioner, to becoming Vice President and throughout his presidency, he lived as he preached—transparently! His reputation for integrity was widespread nationally and internationally," he posted.
