Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Stephen Amoah, insists that the government has showed commitment to alleviating the burden on citizens by working around the clock to stabilise the economy.
According to him, despite the various financial woes that have befallen the country as a result of the COVID-19 virus and the Russian/Ukraine war, the government has not introduced new taxes because it felt the citizens were bearing the brunt of the crisis.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, he said government had put in place certain policies including SME goals to assist small scale businesses with financial assistance so that they can create jobs and support Ghanaians.
“We have done a lot to increase government’s committed by laying a lot of funds in the area of leap, school feeding, in the area so the National Health Insurance and all those things.
“They are clearly evidence or indicative of the fact that the government is highly committed to the welfare of Ghanaians,” he said on July 27.
Dr Amoah said all these go to prove the Finance Minister and President “show empathy.” He added that as such the government has been very discipline in managing of the fiscal space.
On the back of this, he argued that “Government has been working so hard to stablise the economy and make sure that we can grow to affect these areas.”
"So, I think it is very clear statement that the government per its recent policies and disciplinary actions ...that we have out performed almost all the targets and bringing this economy back to life," he added.
