Residents of Konongo in the Asante Akim Central Municipality woke up to the theft of a battery from one of the tipper trucks.
The vehicle was part of the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) equipment unveiled a few weeks ago.
The DRIP equipment had been parked at the Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly premises while authorities awaited the completion of training for the machine operators.
The incident was discovered during a test of the heavy-duty equipment, leaving the officials in disarray.
According to Accra-based CitiNewsroom, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akim Central, Robert Yaw Kwaakye, expressed concern, adding that the incident could hinder the government’s efforts to ensure development.
The Ghana Police Service has also commenced investigations into the matter.
Mr. Kwaakye added that the Assembly will enhance surveillance to ensure the safety of the equipment.
