The launch of the highly anticipated World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa Championship bout, a joint promotion between Legacy Fight Promotions and Shiatse Promotions, dubbed “The Golden Hands,” is set for September 14.
The launch event took place at the Tree House Restaurant in Accra ahead of the WBO Africa bantamweight title bout between Ghanaian sensation Daniel Gorsh and Ghislain Vodounhessi of Benin.
According to Nii Okai Laryea, one of the two organisers of the event, their aim is to help revive the sport in the country.
"There's so much raw talent within the Gamashie area, and as sons of the soil, we believe that it is important to help develop the sport within the area," he said.
"These two promotions have come together to organise what we term 'The Golden Hands,' which promises to be a very competitive night of boxing at the Tree House Restaurant in Accra."
Boxer Gorsh is poised to challenge his Beninese opponent for the vacant WBO Africa bantamweight title.
"I want to give a very big respect to my opponent, who's a very experienced boxer. I'll not take him for granted, but it's business time, so when I get into the ring, I'll do what is needed to win the match," Gorsh said.
Gorsh, with a 12-0 record and nine knockouts, aims to add the WBO Africa bantamweight title to his resume, which includes the UBO Africa super bantamweight title won in March.
Meanwhile, his opponent, Vodounhessi, has a 25-2 record and 23 knockouts.
His record includes 14 wins out of his 16 Ghanaian opponents.
