Edibeck Consult, a company which specialises in organising summer camps in Europe and the United States of America for Ghanaian schools, climaxed this year’s Europe trip at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
The delegation, which was made up of 84 participants who were mostly students, had the opportunity to experience summer camp activities, tourism and educational benefits.
The trip began with a week of summer camp in Braamt, Netherlands, where students engaged in activities such as canoeing, raft building, archery tag, learning of Dutch language, and introduction to sustainable use of artificial intelligence, among others.
For the students, these activities inspired cultural exposure and exchange, language skills improvement, personal growth and independence, skills development, networking and exposure to new ideas and perspectives.
Beside the summer camp activities, the students visited some of Europe’s most iconic cities, where they were immersed in the rich history and culture that defines the European continent. From the vibrant streets of Amsterdam to the historic sites of Cologne, the students gained a deeper understanding of Europe’s diverse heritage. They visited Dam Square, Cologne Cathedral, Moviepark Germany, Grand Place, Johan Cruyff Arena, Duinrell theme & water parks, and a tour of Amsterdam, Brussels and Arnhem.
The climax of this year’s trip was the visit to Brussels, the de facto capital of the European Union and home to the European Parliament. Upon arrival in the city, the students were greeted with the bustling energy of a city at the center of European politics. The highlight of the visit was an exclusive lecture on the history, transition and responsibilities of the parliament as well as well as insight into the EU’s regional development.
During the tour, the students learned about the role of the European Parliament in shaping policies that affect over 500 million citizens across 27 member states. They observed the Parliament’s chambers, where critical debates and votes take place, and explored the complex mechanisms that enable diverse nations to work together toward common goals.
The experience was a reminder of the importance of democracy, cooperation, and civic responsibility. The experience was not only educational but also profoundly inspiring, offering the students a firsthand look at the inner workings of one of the world’s most influential political institutions.
As the trip concluded, the students reflected on their journey, enriched by the experiences and knowledge they had gained. The visit to the European Parliament was more than just a tour; it was a transformative experience that broadened their understanding of Europe’s political landscape and inspired them to think critically about their roles as global citizens.
