John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for neglecting public schools in the country.
Speaking to residents of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency, Mr Mahama emphasized that nearly eight years into the NPP administration, many schools in the Upper West Region still lack essential furniture.
Recalling past visits, Mr Mahama highlighted how Dr Bawumia, when he was running mate, witnessed children sitting on stones in villages due to a lack of furniture, capturing the moment in photographs.
He lamented that despite Bawumia's involvement in the economic management team, approximately 1.2 million children continue to attend schools without proper furniture.
The former president pointed out that inadequate infrastructure in public schools significantly hampers academic performance.
He underscored the importance of creating a conducive learning environment and accused the NPP government of failing to fulfil its responsibilities in this regard.
